Once you have your 1&1 hosting package in place, which should only take around three hours from the point of ordering, you can then begin installing Mambo CMS. {mosgoogle center} Installation The following Mambo install was performed on 1&1's Business Pro hosting package. Download a copy of Mambo CMS , this is version 4.5.2.3, if you want to download another version, go to http://www.mamboserver.com/ , however for the purposes of this article we will use the most recent version to date. Once you have downloaded the package, open it using WinZip, or some other packaging utility and extract it to a folder on your harddrive, in this instance, create a directory in your root drive called cms_comp and extract the files into this directory. If you now look at the folder using 'Windows Explorer' you should see lots of directories and files which look something like this ... Using 'Internet Explorer' , ftp to your 1&1 hosting service, by typing the name of you doamin prefixed by ftp, for example, if you domain was 'www.mydomain.com' you would type ftp://ftp.mydomain.com into 'Internet Explorer' , you will be asked for a userid and password, these are available in your 1&1 control panel under Package Administration -> Web Space/Access -> FTP Account. If there are no entries in the list, just create an FTP user id and password. Once you have logged in to FTP, copy the Mambo CMS installtion files from your harddrive, if you placed them in cms_comp, copy them from there, you can select all of the files and copy them all at once if you wish to the chosen location for you domain. You domain name will point to a particular directory on the 1&1 web server, you can set or change the directory using the 1&1 control panel, by editing the settings for the domain. Once the files have been copied to the directory you require the CMS installation on, you are ready to create a MySQL database. This can be created from the 1&1 control panel. Click Package Administration -> Applications -> MySQLAdministration. On the page displayed click setup and follow the setup procedure, it will take a few minutes for the database to be correctly setup, just refresh the page periodically until it is. Note down the database name, username , password and host name for the database you create, we will need this during the Mambo installation. Once the database has been setup, we can begin the Mambo CMS installation. For you domain, enter the following url substititing 'mydomain.com' for your domain name. In your internet explorer ot other browser, type http://www.'mydomain.com'/installation . The Mambo installation screen should be displayed as shown below. Click 'Next' to go to the next screen which will display the user license agreement. Once you have read the agreement, simply click 'I Accept The GPS License' checkbox and click the 'Next' button if appropriate and you will see a page requesting the database information for Mambo. Enter the required information, which you should have written down, if not go to your 1&1 account panel to retrieve the information again. Enter the information required and click 'Next'. The next page will display a field for your site name, enter your full domain name with the 'www' prefix then click 'Next' You will then see the Mambo admin setup page, enter your email address as instructed and you can change the admin password to something you can remember easily. Then click 'Next'. The final page is now displayed, remember to note down the administration username and password for future reference. Finally, using the FTP connection to your web space, remove the installation directory from the mambo installation directory. Thats it, on the final installation page, if you click 'View Site' you will see the default Mambo site displayed for your domain. To access the administration console for Mambo use ... http://www.'you domain'/administrator Supply the username and password given to you on the final installation page, and the Mambo CMS administration console will be displayed.
